POLICE have arrested three teenagers following the death of a 16-year-old girl in Warrington yesterday morning, Saturday.

They are investigating the possibility Ellie Jones, from Orford, may have taken an 'illegal substance'.

This morning officers are continuing to question three boys, also 16, who were arrested on suspicion of supplying drugs and perverting the course of justice.

A post mortem was inconclusive and the results of further toxicology tests are awaited.

Emergency services were called to the house on Densham Avenue, Longford, at 3.30am following reports of a teenager with breathing difficulties but despite the efforts of paramedics she died at 5am.

Officers confirmed the girl did not live at the house, but was there with four other teenagers.

Supt Martin Cleworth, from Cheshire Police, said inquiries were focused on establishing her movements during the evening prior to her death.

He said: "Our thoughts this morning are with the family and friends of the young girl who lost her life. Specially trained police officers are providing support to them.

"Our investigations into the cause of her death are at an early stage, and I would appeal for public help and support in progressing these.

"I would also like to reiterate the message, and to young people in particular, around the dangers of taking any illegal substance."

Her friends have been paying tribute to her on Twitter.

Em Morgan said: "So shocked, horrible how someone's life can just be taken away so fast, RIP Elly jones x"

While Steven Atkins added: "Elly Jones made people laugh, she made people smile! Rest in Peace Elly Jones #RIPELLJONES"

Police have also issued a warning to other teenagers who have finished their exams to be careful when out at parties or celebrating this weekend.
