Pick up a quirky piece of homeware at launch of new charity project

A WALTON charity which supports adults with learning and other disabilities is opening a new venture to the public on Saturday.

The project will be unveiling new creations from its Take A Seat! furniture restoration and up-cycling project.

The scheme helps project users gain new skills and adapt to their current woodworking, recycling, horticultural and crafting projects, by taking unwanted furniture and transforming it to sell on to benefit the charity.

Kate Fitch, leader of the project, said: “There will be a showcase on the day displaying what we’ve done and up-cycled.

“It’s an opportunity for the community to come and take a look at the restorations and be able to buy quirky furniture at an affordable and realistic price, with all proceeds going straight back into the charity.”

The new recycled furniture scheme was devised after volunteers of the charity in Walton Lea attended a ‘Too Good To Waste’ course in Trafford Hall near Chester, last summer.

And now they want to show off their handiwork after creating a range of bespoke items from furniture that was no longer wanted.

Kate added: “We’ve spoken to people surrounding the charity and they’ve told us that they are excited for the launch and are supporting the project. It is also a great opportunity for the charity to receive feedback.”

Entertainment will come from local talent throughout the day.

The launch day runs between 10am and 4pm on Saturday at the Walton Lea Nursery site.
