A PENKETH children’s entertainer opened his door to three complete strangers to film the new series of ITV hit May The Best House Win.

Geoffrey Berry was one of four contestants on the programme which sees the owners of some of Britain’s most unusual houses compete against each other for a £1,000 cash prize.

The 70-year-old, who shares his house not only with his wife Judith but also with a dozen fairies, a smoking leprechaun and a talking owl, claimed the experience was nothing short of ‘amazing’.

Geoffrey, who professionally goes by the name Mr Happy Chappy, said: “I didn’t expect people to go away from my house thinking that they would like to live here, but what I wanted was for people to enjoy the surroundings. Even I would say my house is pretty quirky.”

The children’s entertainer, who is a member of the world’s largest magic club, said: “People might think I am crazy for doing it but I wouldn’t go on the show if I was afraid of being made a fool of.”

Geoffrey, who claims magic has kept him young, would do the show again as quickly as he could flick his magic wand.

“It was a great opportunity to see how other people live and I wouldn’t have missed it.”

Although Geoffrey was tight lipped about the outcome and who bagged the £1,000 cash prize, he had only nice things to say about his competitors sales rep Lisa Jones, lawyer Nerys Parry and optician Jane Ashcroft who are all from Warrington.

Geoffrey said: “We all got on well - one of the contestants and I have stayed in contact since we finished filming. The show’s great in that way - you meet people you normally wouldn’t.”

The programme will be aired on Monday on ITV at 2pm.
