ARTY youngsters did the town proud after creating birthday cards to help us celebrate our 160th birthday.

We asked primary school pupils in Warrington to design entries including something related to the town and saw talented doodlers paint, draw and crayon Orford skate park, the Alice in Wonderland statue and Warrington Wolves.

After a reader phone vote, six-year-old Finley Cumberbirch, from Bewsey Lodge Primary School, scooped a £50 Golden Square voucher with his golden gates design after topping the poll.

Proud mum Hayley said: “He was made up when he found out he had won and has been beaming.

“He loves drawing and building things and likes to know how things work.

“i asked him what we wanted to draw from Warrington and he picked the golden gates because it’s something we used to walk past quite a lot outside the town hall.”

Finley will join four other lucky winners at our office on Bridge Street for a masterclass with Bob the Builder designer Curtis Jobling during the summer holidays.

The Cbeebies favourite said he was looking forward to meeting the talented group which include Jasmin May Taylor after she drew a detailed entry including the pink eye from Sankey roundabout, Liam Dooley with his Warrington Wolves mascot Wolfie design, Ellie Houghton with her cut-out card and Joseph Roxby with his Alice statue drawing.

2013 is packed with events as the Warrington Guardian marks 160 years.

A birthday cake competition will be launched this summer before an exhibition celebrating the paper’s history opens at Warrington Museum in September and our community awards in October.
