A LATCHFORD author’s first book has been given the vocal treatment.

Pete Worrall’s first book of The Eyes trilogy They Grow Upon the Eyes, influenced by the setting of the Woolston Eyes, has been turned into an audio book.

The 41-year-old’s story follows chain smoking Inspector Isabelle Cannon trying to prove a link between the death of two ghost hunters, the giant hogweed plant and the rise of asthma in the 20th century.

The idea of creating an audio book began late last year when Pete, of Minerva Close, asked his friends if they wanted to lend their voice to it.

Although not short on volunteers it became clear that the project was more time consuming than he had initially envisaged.

After placing the idea on a professional voiceover site more than 60 artists submitted demos, including Hollywood voiceover guru Kurt Kelly and actor Don McCorkindale.

They were whittled down to nine for a second round of auditions with a Christmas ‘speak off’.

British-born Atlanta resident Mark Pitt came out as a resounding winner.

Three months of recording and a week of editing later, the book is finally available on Amazon and iTunes There is also a new website for the book – theygrowupontheeyes.com with news, pictures, extracts, audio snippets, extra content and the first five chapters of Pete’s long lost book Discovery House.
