ONE lane closed on the M6 after a crash involving four cars has now been reopened.

The accident at 8.20am took place on the northbound Thelwall Viaduct close to the Woolston junction 21.

A lane was closed, causing major congestion, with lines of traffic backing up feeder roads nearby.

Police say that no one was injured during the crash.

Cars also diverted through Warrington, leading to gridlock on Knutsford Road going in to Grappenhall from the motorway.

Traffic is now beginning to clear, according to police, although drivers are advised to avoid the area.
