A MAN has died after being hit by a train approaching Sankey railway station this afternoon, Monday.
British Transport Police say he was pronounced dead at the scene and are not treating the death as suspicious.
One onlooker said the man jumped into the path of the train from a small, humped bridge at around 4pm although a police spokesman would not confirm this.
The train involved was the 15.22 Transpennine Express from Liverpool to Middlesbrough.
The line was closed for around one hour while the emergency services recovered the body causing disruption to many services out of Liverpool Lime Street to the north east and Midlands.
Services are expected to be affected for the next hour.
