LOOKING for a festive family experience with a difference that won’t break the bank?
Quays Culture will host the UK’s biggest ‘digital light festival’ at Salford Quays called Lightwaves until Sunday. The exclusively commissioned 12 artworks are free to view and aim to bring light to cold winter nights.
Highlights include I Forgot, a new commission by artist Jackie Kay in collaboration with Salford-based Soup Collective. The 15m neon word art outside The Lowry will spell out ‘I Forgot To Say,’ with the words ‘To Say’ only revealed when audiences leave a message of their thoughts inspired by the phrase using a phone number.
Meanwhile Belgian artist Tom Dekyvere’s Hydrozome uses a waterside rope sculpture of light to reflect the network of our society. The commission will also capture sounds underneath the surface with a microphone placed in River Irwell.
