EVEN as an adult, seeing all of the famous characters from CBeebies live on stage was fascinating.

But for my four-year-old in his first ever trip to the theatre, it was almost overwhelming.

As the show began, he stared open-mouthed, in awe for a while, before finally settling down and joining in all of the shouting, singing and jumping around, with the help of Mr Bloom, the Zingzillas, Mr Tumble and his all-time favourite, Andy Day.

The plot is simple enough – musical genius Rastamouse is setting up the biggest band in the world, with the help of Mr Maker, Nina and the King of CBeebies himself - Justin Fletcher.

Warrington Guardian: Review: CBeebies Live at the Echo Arena

There was lots of interaction with the crowd and at one point; Mr Tumble invited some children up on to the stage, which led, predictably, to my son asking when it was HIS turn to go up.

The entire audience enjoyed the show’s finale – SClub7’s catchy hit, ‘Reach for the Stars’, with everyone on their feet dancing, obviously enjoying that precious time when your children think you are fun, rather than embarrassing.

Unfortunately, the heavens opened as we were leaving the Arena, forcing me to purchase a £12 CBeebies umbrella, as well as a £5 balloon, which I was pestered into.

However, the positives outweighed the negatives and a good time was had by all, although I’ll need to psyche myself up to the next kids show, which will probably be pantomime at Christmas.
