Duo des Mers 2013, £6.50, thewinesociety.com
Two grapes from different parts of the southern half of France are blended to make this crisp white that’s also full of juicy pineapple flavours.
The Sauvignon Blanc comes from Gascony near the Atlantic coast north of Bordeaux while the 30% is Viognier harvested in Languedoc close to the Med.
The result is a dream at £6.50.
Exquisite Collection Fleurie, £6.49, Aldi
Still in France Fleurie is a lovely name, suggesting floral aromas, and is probably the most enjoyable type of Beaujolais.
This example from Aldi’s own-label range is made 100% with Gamay, the Beaujolais grape, and is light enough to ideally be drunk chilled although remember the alcohol level is 13%.
Another bargain price too.
