IT is full steam ahead for Lymm Historic Transport Day 2014.

Following the success of last year’s inaugural event, when 3,000 people packed into the village, the festival is making a return on June 29.

Get set for trains, planes and automobiles this year with organisers in talks for a fly past by pre-war bi-planes.

Cheshire’s 1949 Dennis Fire Engine will be rolling into the village and the wheels are in motion for plenty more new attractions.

Event director Alan Williams said: “We see a great opportunity to build on last year and create an outstanding unique event.

“We look forward to welcoming thousands of first-time visitors to the village. Last year cars came form as far afield as London and North Yorkshire and one boat set off in April to be here!”

Last year’s Transport Day saw parades of cars and motorbikes and historic working boats ambled along the Bridgewater Canal.

With penny farthings, steam rollers and vintage bus rides, the village was transported back to a bygone era.

The event is part of Lymm Festival and it will be preceded by two days of canal heritage education featuring the last of the Shropshire flyboats ‘Saturn’ plus visiting boats from the National Waterways museum at Ellesmere Port.

The success of the 2013 festival even led to a book about Lymm’s transport history being published in December with part of the funds going towards future events.

‘The Wheels and the Water’ has sold nearly 600 copies so far and can be bought at Warrington Library.
