RICK Astley revealed he spent time as a teenager building sheds in Warrington during a conversation ahead of his Glastonbury appearance.

The Newton-le-Willows singer mentioned to Radio 2's Zoe Ball this morning, Tuesday, that he used to be 'roped into' odd jobs to help his dad's small business when he was a teenager.

Rick said that one of those jobs was often building sheds in and around Warrington.

One segment of the interview saw Zoe Ball read out messages from fans that were sent to the radio station, with one from Simon in Wigan saying: "Rick Astley's brother built my garden shed in Burtonwood about 35 years ago."

To which the pop star replied: "I could've helped him, I could've helped him.

"Our dad had a very small garden centre thing and we were roped into all sorts of things as teenagers - one of the things was to go and put sheds up for people."

Rick is set to perform at Glastonbury for the first time in his career when he opens the renowned Pyramid Stage on Saturday afternoon, June 24.

He spoke to Zoe Ball about performing as a 57-year-old, as well as discussing his new album and tour later this year.

Rick said: "I packed in a very long time ago, but sometimes you've got to get your head down [and work at it]."

Regarding his first-ever Glastonbury appearance, he said: "I am looking forward to it - It's an honour.

"It's just unreal."

Though he did mention that being the first act on the stage on Saturday comes with 'a bit of tension.'

The 'Never Gonna Give You Up' singer then gave a behind-the-scenes look at his music-making process: "My studio is my garage - but I can't get a car in there anymore.

"I love playing live but making records is just slightly different.

"I put them together myself."

He then joked: "If somebody's out there who wants to produce a Rick Astley record then let me know."

Rick Astley will perform at Glastonbury 2023 on Saturday, June 24 at 12pm - the performance will be made available on BBC iPlayer at 5pm on Sunday, June 25.
