IT has been interesting to read the letters recently about the problems of the high street in Warrington.
The fact Marks and Spencer’s unit in the town centre remains empty years after it closed says all you need to know.
Debenhams will be the same.
The reality of course is that Warrington is no different to anywhere else.
Like it or loathe it, people are fed up of shopping and spending time on the high street.
The reasons restaurants are opening is because that is how people are spending their money and their time.
I would rather there were more shops, but times have moved on.
I would rather there were butchers and green grocers on every high street.
But again, things changed.
Lockdown has accelerated what was already happening.
People go online.
And there is nothing the council can do.
