A COUPLE have thrown themselves into a completely new profession after opening a coffee shop and brunch spot in Penketh.

Callum Rodgers and Maddy Radley are behind Casa Coffee in Honiton Way.

Maddy previously worked at United Utilities for 10 years while Callum's background is as a carpenter.

Callum has worked all over the country and also in Australia and is now relishing the chance to put down roots and stay close to home.

The former St Joseph's Catholic Primary School pupil did the fit out for Casa himself with the help of friends and family.

Originally the plan was for Maddy to run the coffee shop day-to-day but Callum fell in love with the project.

The 27-year-old said: "When I opened it, I thought: ‘This is me now’. Before this I was a carpenter but when I opened the doors it felt like I’d found my place.

"Where I’ve worked around the world, there have always been nice coffee shops and places for brunch.

"I saw this unit available and I thought this is what the area needs. We want to create a sense of community around the place."

Casa's coffee supplier is the micro roastery Amber in Liverpool.

Callum said: "They’re brilliant. Their coffee is unbelievable and they have a stall at the Makers Market in Warrington."

Maddy added: "We’re also going to be using all local suppliers. So we’ve teamed up with Snoutwood Trotters for our meat and eggs, Warrington Fruit and Veg for our veg supply and also Mamar’s bakery for our bread."

The couple will also offer cooked breakfast, brunch options like avocado on toast, eggs benedict, French toast and smoothie bowls and cakes.

Maddy, who lives in Kingswood, said: "We saw a gap in the market. There is not much around here which is similar to what we’ve got."

'It feels like new life is being breathed into this part of Penketh'

Callum added: "I also gave up drinking about a year ago and it felt like there was nowhere to go instead of the pub to chill and meet your mates so I thought it was a good idea for that."

Maddy said: "We wanted to create a place where people can relax and work from here or meet friends."

Callum added: "It’s been well received so far and we've been busy.

"The area needed something like this and there are new owners at Delgados, our neighbours, so it feels like new life is being breathed into this part of Penketh."

If there is demand, the couple also hope to open up late one day a week with acoustic artists to create a late night cafe environment.
