ASHLEY Nemits was in record-breaking form again on Sunday as she set a new Warrington Athletics Club record.

By winning the women’s under 17s 200m race at the Birmingham City Games in a personal best time of 24.88secs, Nemits also moved top of the UK rankings for her age group.

She is now the best under 17s athlete in the country at both 200m and 300m and ranks second in 400m.

Plenty of her Warrington teammates were in indoor action elsewhere, with eight club members competing in the latest Sale Harriers Winter Series meeting.

Evie Schofield was a winner over 60 metres in the under 13s age group – setting a new personal best of 8.87secs – while under 17s runner Sophia Rowlinson also ran a new best time of 9.04secs over the same distance to finish fifth.

Paul Corker set a new 200m club record of 28.63secs for the over 50s age group as he finished second while his daughter Meg was fourth in her under 15s race and Evie Schofield set a new personal best time of 30.08secs.

Emily Jackson came fourth over the same distance in the under 17s age group.

In the 600m series, Jordan Jones finished second in the under 20s race in a personal-best 1min 2.46secs while Amelia Smithers also set a new personal mark of 1min 55.52secs to finish sixth in the under 15s.

Gus Schofield was the only club member competing in the field events and he too set a new personal best in the high jump, finishing third with a leap of 1.60m.

Masters athlete Neal Petley was also in indoor action at the British Masters Indoor Pentathlon Championships and recorded personal bests in the 60m hurdles and shot put while also laying down season’s bests in the long jump, high jump and 1000m.

This meant a total of 2,577 points to finish third in the over 50s age group, but he was upgraded to a British Championships silver medal as second-place athlete Ronan Gateley was running as a guest from Ireland.

More masters athletes ran outdoors, with Steve Watmough’s personal-best half-marathon time of 1hour 16mins 28secs at the Wrexham half-marathon proving enough to put him top of the UK over 55s rankings.

In the same race, Louise Blizzard came second in the women’s over 40s age group and 276th overall in 1hour 29mins 17secs while Dave Norman clocked 1hour 30mins 52secs to put him seventh in the over 55s and 339th overall.

At Sunday’s Central Lancashire 5km road race in Bolton, Colin Bishop finished 10th overall and his time of 18mins 39secs won him the over 55s age group while Dave Gill was not far behind – he stopped the clock at 21mins 15secs to ensure he was the first over 60s runner home.

Paul Bagan clocked 16mins 44secs in Friday’s Power of 5k road race in Morecambe to place second in the over 40s age group while Steve Burthem also came second in his over 55s age group in the following day’s Parbold Hill race in Wigan.
