HAVING had a whirlwind start to his professional career, Danny Walker says he might benefit from taking things a little slower for a while.

The hooker has made his Super League debut, moved from Widnes to The Wire and represented England Knights while still a teenager.

The Orford native and boyhood Warrington fan has appeared in both Super League games this season from the bench and says he is sure more game time will come if he continues to work hard.

Walker does not turn 20 until June and says taking a backward step – as well as continuing to learn from the likes of fellow dummy-half Daryl Clark – may help him in the long run.

“It has been a bit of a whirlwind for me,” he said.

“Everything has come round so fast so it might be a good thing for me to just sit on a learning curve for a bit.

“Taking a bit of a backward step out of the limelight to focus on my game can only be a good thing.

“Playing with all these guys who have been there and done it has been a great learning curve. They are all big stars of the game.

“It’s been good to learn from Daz as well. He’s up there with one of the best hookers in the world.

“We’ve been doing little extras together, but from my perspective I can even learn from just watching what he does and taking it from there."

“It’s taking every little minute that I can get and making the most of the chances for me.

“I wouldn’t mind a little bit more game time but that will come. I’m not in a big rush.

“All I have to do is keep focusing on my performances and doing my job.”

Walker is likely to fill the interchange hooker role once again as The Wire return to action at Huddersfield Giants on Friday.

It is their first game for nearly two weeks and Walker admits their break came at a bad time, with Wolves sitting top of Super League having gained maximum points so far.

He says it may take a while for them to show their true potential but has promised fans the team will be “the real deal” when they do click into gear.

“Performances have been alright. The Leeds game was very good,” he said.

“We didn’t quite show everything we’ve got against Hull KR but we still got the points.

“That shows how much of a good team we are. We didn’t play to our best but we still came away with two points.

“We’re only two games in. It’s still so early.

“It’s going to take a bit of time, but it will stand us in good stead if we can keep grinding out results.

“Who knows when we’ll fully click but when we do, we will be the real deal.”
