THREE men armed with a metal bar, screwdriver and chair leg threatened a man at his home in an attempted burglary.

Police say sometime between 7.50pm and 8.30pm on Tuesday the victim, a 49-year-old man, was at home on Cavendish Close when her heard a knock at the door.

When he opened the door the man was confronted by three unknown men.

They forced their way in, before hitting the victim on the head and knocking him to the ground.

Detectives say they then carried out a search and caused damage to property before fleeing on foot.

The victim suffered a number of scratches and bruises. He did not require hospital treatment.

The offenders are all in their 20s. One had a black scarf across his face, while a second man was wearing a grey waterproof coat with his hood down.

DC Chris Kearney said: “Thankfully the victim in this case did not sustain any serious injuries as a result of the attack.

“However, he was been shaken extremely shaken and we are committed to doing all that we can to trace the people responsible and bring them to justice.

“Enquiries in relation to the incident are ongoing and as part of the investigation I’m keen to hear from anyone with any information, no matter how small, which may assist the investigation.

“I’m also keen to hear from drivers with any dashcam footage who were driving in the Cavendish Close area at the time of the incident.
