A SOCIAL club in Orford could have shut its doors for the final time.
The Box Works, based in Evans House, is currently vacant after the proprietor gave up the lease on the business.
And the Norman Street social club and function room could now be turned into a retail unit.
A statement posted on Evans House’ Facebook page said: "We are sorry to say that the current proprietor of the Box Works has now vacated and closed its doors permanently.
"We have personally called every booking in the diary to ensure that everyone is informed and can make alternative arrangements.
"For the three years that I have been at Evans House – and in fact many years before – the Box Works has been deprived of any investment and sought to rely on its income as an old-fashioned men’s club.
"This has not boded well in current years, and even with Evans House working with tenants on rent-free period and redeveloping the function room the situation has not gotten any better.
"We have looked at getting others in to run the Box Works as it is actually a good little function room, but so far little progress has been made.
"Unless we can find someone fairly quickly, we will therefore change it into a retail storage unit in the near future."
