PAUL Nuttall’s feeble attempt to rewrite history by claiming ‘no-one said Brexit would be easy’ is truly laughable (Warrington Guardian, October 11).
Nuttall seems to have forgotten that on January 17 last year he said: “It will be easy to negotiate a trade deal.”
His views were shared by his own predecessor in tweed, Nigel Farage, who said in a BBC interview of September 2016 ‘Brexit was easy’ – he even outlined three ‘easy outcomes’.
His successor at UKIP Gerard Batten said it ‘could be sorted out in an afternoon’.
He is not the only Brexiteer deceiving himself, disgraced former defence secretary Liam Fox, now masquerading as International Trade Secretary, said a deal was so simple it could be done ‘in days’ and would be one of the easiest in history.
A simple search shows Tories Brexiteers Gove, Johnson and Redwood expressing similar sentiments.
So who consistently said it would be deeply complex, destructive and divisive? People like me, the Remainers who were confronted by shouts of Project Fear from the UKIP foot soldiers on this page.
Meanwhile the Government plans to turn the motorways into lorry parks and the NHS is preparing to stockpile medicines in case of a no deal.
You could hardly make it up, unless, of course you were a former UKIP leader.
