WILMSLOW Animal Sanctuary desperately needs more volunteers to help it raise funds for the animals it cares for.

The charity’s income comes from fundraising, donations and legacies, and it organises events throughout the year.

“We are desperately in need of more volunteers to join our fundraising team led by one of our ‘hands-on’ trustees,” said sanctuary volunteer Nicola Foster.

“As our only source of income to run the sanctuary comes from fundraising, donations and legacies we try to be as proactive as possible, with a full year of events planned.

“These take a lot of organising and manpower to run, but we are a happy and cheerful bunch doing all of this so we can do the best for the animals in our care.

“Volunteers help with our running of events such as our fun day.

“This may involve preparing items for a tombola, wrapping lucky dip prizes, shopping for the refreshments, baking cakes, helping set up or packing up, running a stall or supervising a game.

“We also need volunteers at our jumble sales, the artisan market and street collections.

“This can involve setting up and or selling at the jumble sales, running a tombola at the artisan market or holding a collecting bucket and talking to the public.

“Again never on your own, these can be very social days and fun to do.

“If you prefer to help from home and are good on a computer we need people to sell donated items on Ebay.

“The sanctuary also spends a lot of time applying for charity grants, a vital contribution to the work we do, and if anyone has experience preparing grant applications we would love to hear from you.”

Nicola said fundraising could be hard work but also a lot of fun.

She added: “There is a great sense of camaraderie at all our events and a tremendous feeling of satisfaction when you know how much has been raised because of your efforts.”
