THE demolition of Bank House in Mersey Street (Warrington Guardian, July 20) is surely proof that the powers that be at Warrington Borough Council are bereft of social conscience.
The fact that the building could have been used to provide a roof over the heads of Warrington’s rough sleepers and homeless people speaks for itself.
A building little more than 40 years old has been torn down within a stone’s throw of the Salvation Army building and accommodation on the opposite side of Mersey Street.
Warrington should hand its head in shame.
The great Mahatma Gandhi once said that the measure of Government was how well it treated the weakest in society.
On this showing, the Government at the other Bank House is showing its true colours.
