IN response to a recent letter which asked why not replace the Fiddlers Ferry Power Station with a wind farm.
It could be done, but with a quick check of the numbers, the same power output for a windfarm would need about 20 times the area of the current power station.
Fiddlers Ferry – 2000 MW output on about 330 hectares; The Frodsham Marsh Windfarm is 50 MW on about 170 hectares, so you would get about 100 MW windfarm output on the Fiddlers Ferry Site, assuming similar wind conditions, and wind turbine numbers.
Moving from fossil fuels with their fantastic energy density is a Herculean task.
And of course, there is no output from the windfarm when the wind isn’t blowing!
