SO Warrington Borough Council strikes again with the destruction of another Warrington landmark.
The old swing bridge over the Sankey canal is being cut up for scrap.
The canal is the oldest in the UK dating from 1757, so the bridge is probably not far off being that old.
It should be saved as part of the towns heritage, not systematically destroyed as has been this council’s agenda.
Don’t use the excuse that it is unsafe because there’s nothing that can’t be repaired or restored.
Shame on you WBC for destroying a great town, getting rid of more of the town’s history.
Surely some money could have been found to preserve this bridge because let’s face it you’ve already wasted millions.
As far as this great town’s history is concerned it is an utter disgrace.
