THIS week alone I have seen several towns and shopping centres around Warrington advertising what magical Christmas fun they’ve got going on in their area.

Knutsford, Frodsham and Leigh to name a few have got lots of entertainment planned such as fun parades, Christmas tree lights switch ons and grottos to meet Santa.

Over the weekend me and my family travelled to Wigan to watch a lovely Christmas parade/show with reindeer and all sorts going on.

This weekend we will be travelling to another town to see their fun-filled festive activities and it got me thinking how poor Warrington’s efforts are towards Christmas.

It is sad that we have to travel out of our town to enjoy these Christmas events.

Not just this year but other years gone by regardless of a pandemic, all Golden Square has offered is Santa driving around the mall in a sleigh and putting a few Christmas movies on a projector outside (you can do that in the comfort of your own home).

It isn’t good enough in my opinion. I understand the decisions behind the virtual lights switch on this year, but more effort and events could still be happening to make our town feel more festive, even if they were ticketed events.

Everyone is aware of how difficult life has been in the past couple of years and Christmas should be a time when Warrington comes together as a community.

Our children have missed out on enough, not just children but adults too.

WBC needs to pull its finger out, as well as Golden Square who should be making more of an effort to involve children this Christmas. Take a look at the Trafford Centre and see what Christmas events they’ve got going on.
