ALTHOUGH I now live in Sussex, I was very interested to read your article under Yester Years concerning the Britannia Inn on the corner of Scotland Road.
I remember this pub vividly, as in the 1960s my friend Adrian Albinson – who was articled at the time at Herbert Woods and Bostock in Bold Street – and I used to have our lunch most days at the Britannia.
We used to go to the upper room and have the same thing every day, which was beans on toast – delicious – and a selection of cheese and biscuits and all for about three shillings and threepence (3d).
Brilliant value for money.
It is sadly missed.
