THE article by Gareth Dunning on Burtonwood Air Base bought back several memories for me.
I live next to the site and in 2005 I helped the Warrington Records Office to digitise their birth, death and marriage records.
A lot of them were for American Army bases in Europe flying pregnant wives to Burtonwood so they can claim the birth was on American territory.
One was special and was listed ‘somewhere over Bay of Biscay’.
Also I was always delighted by the large numbers of swallows and house martins flying during summertime.
Alas they all disappeared after the hangers and warehouses were demolished.
