IN response to your feature about when houses stood in the depot, I thought I’d drop a bit of a note (Warrington Guardian, March 4) concerning the picture of the houses and shop facing the fence.
Behind that fence was a small piece of land which was boxed in by the one-way system and the short length of road from Chester Road to Wilderspool Causeway.
I believe this piece of land was the first car park for Wilderspool Stadium.
The person who had the franchise on it was a relation of mine Mr Barber who lived close by Bowlers cycle shop.
On the opposite side of the road stood the Ring O’Bells.
My school mate from Our Lady’s lived next to the pub, and that is where I saw my first television.
The television had a 9 in screen with a second screen in front of it.
That was 1950.
Bring back the good old days.
