DOES anyone remember the Bell Hall?

What a fantastic time we had at these get togethers.

Sunday night records, long night Friday dances, bar open until midnight, dancing until 1am.

Some of us belonged to the Young Christian Workers, a lot of us met and married our husbands and wives.

One of the best groups was Eric Pepperell, fabulous to jive to.

Barry Wilcox and Nicky Martyn were fantastic singers.

Us girls couldn’t get through the doors with three net skirts and beehive hairdos.

When we were there dancing, hugging and kissing was forbidden.

If you did get caught, Monica O’Hara and Jimmy Glavin would tap you on the shoulder and tell you to stop.

Oh what happy days.

SHEILA DONLAN Warrington

WE went dancing at the Carlton every Saturday night.

At the interval we went across the road to the Cock and Trumpet, a little pub, for a drink.

The Carlton wasn’t licensed for drinks.

Tuesday night was the Navy night and all the sailors from Stretton came.

Happy times.
