THE article about the threat to make the M6 between junctions 21a and 26 a ‘smart motorway’ fills me with horror (Warrington Guardian, February 11).

This is a section of the M6 that I will be regularly using when the pandemic is finally over.

I can remember the M6 between junctions 30, M61, and junction 32, M55, being upgraded to a four-lane highway with a hard shoulder about 20 years ago.

Why can’t they do the same now to make the road safer instead of more dangerous?

If they can waste that much money on the HS2 then spending a bit on improving motorways would be much appreciated by all motorists.
