I WAS interested to read your article about Livewire and its current funding problem (Warrington Guardian, January 14).
While I accept that the Covid-19 situation has made conditions more difficult over the past year for all services such as leisure centres, it is surely right to ask about previous records.
Clearly the conduct of Livewire in past years points to serious problems which should be addressed.
One aspect which was not covered, however, is the fact that Livewire is also responsible for libraries, which are a statutory service.
The 1964 Public Libraries and Museums Act sets out clear regulations about what should be provided.
It says: ‘It shall be the duty of every library authority to provide a comprehensive and efficient library service for all persons desiring to make use thereof.’
Clearly the council should give considerable thought to this aspect in considering Livewire’s future.
