I UNDERSTAND the reason why pavements have been widened in Stockton Heath to help in the pandemic.

We all want to encourage people to shop local and stay safe.

So wider pavements enable safe social distancing.

But do we need two extra pedestrian crossings?

The two are around 50 metres from existing crossings, at the swing bridge and the Victoria Buildings.

All it has done is created a long traffic delays at a time when cars are still nowhere near the levels of March.

Who came up with this idea?

It seems like box ticking with very little understanding of the consequences.

Hopefully it is a decision which will be reversed soon.
