I WAS surprised to read Aran Dhillon’s article detailing the news that the Warrington Half Marathon Race is to return in September (Warrington Guardian, February 13).
As he mentions, last year’s event was cancelled five days before it was due to take place and to date no one has had their £35 refunded.
What a disgrace.
Most entrants participate as a way of helping charities.
There is committed training in preparation for such an event, whether you enter the half marathon or 10km, so people deserve better.
The organiser Rob Griffiths made his apologies with online statements and the Warrington Guardian featured the same promises by him that everyone would be offered either a refund or auto entry into another event.
Obviously this has not happened.
I know this for a fact as my son is a repeat entrant.
I don’t suppose that anyone has made any attempt to ensure that he keeps that promise?
As a gesture of goodwill maybe Warrington Borough Council and the new organisers could put this right.
I would expect that many people will snub this event otherwise, and who would blame them.
As a supporter since it started I will remain less than impressed if this is not addressed.
