I REFER to your article regarding Warrington Borough Council losing out on a bid to get £25 million to revamp the town centre (Warrington Guardian, July 18).
Bridge Street is an utter disgrace with closed down and boarded up vacant shops and too many licensed premises and takeaways.
But that trend has gone further into Sankey Street.
I was in town last week and the number of shops that are closed and boarded up in Sankey Street is unbelievable.
Prezzo restaurant is closed and three other units closed on the same side.
Opposite, Rigbys store is closed.
The old Co-op /TJ Hughes unit is closed.
Marks and Spencer is closed.
As you walk into Golden Square Shopping Centre off Sankey street there are four large units vacant.
Warrington Borough Council is wasting tax payers money buying stores in Farnworth and Hulme instead of spending money on their own town.
