AFTER three years in prison in Iran Nazanin Zagari-Ratcliffe’s physical and mental health is very fragile exacerbated by the separation from her five-year old daughter Gabrielle.
To help keep hope alive Nazanin and other political prisoners in prison with her have been knitting gifts for Gabrielle.
This has inspired Cardiff Amnesty Group to produce a symbolic knitted ‘chain of oppression’.
Each link of the chain will have 1190 stiches – a stitch for everyday that Nazanin will have been in prison when the chain is completed.
If anyone would like to knit a strip for the chain please phone 268871 or email benkin64@ talktalk.net for the instructions.
The knitted strips can be posted to Cardiff or brought to Market Gate in Warrington town centre next Saturday, May 18 between 10am and 2pm where Warrington Amnesty Group will have an information stall on hand.
A creative use for the chain is being sought – if long enough it could be wrapped around the Iranian Embassy in London symbolically imprisoning the Embassy!
Happy knitting.

Secretary Warrington Amnesty Group Appleton
