BEN Wakerley, managing director of Warrington’s Own Buses, ended his column in last week’s Warrington Guardian (March 28) with a plea for the public to ‘please leave the car and give the bus a try’.

His method to encourage more people to use his buses seems to be to cut services.

Among the many problems with his new plan for west Warrington is a lack of services from Liverpool Road and large areas of Penketh serving Honiton Way, where the local health centre, pharmacy, library, post office and several other shops are located.

And with other services and connections from the area disappearing maybe Mr Wakerley can explain how this is a ‘service improvement’.

The message to west Warrington seems to be use the car as we won’t be running buses for you. Which is ok if you have a car, but if not?
