IT was inevitable that Cllr Dan Price’s letter (January 31) would infuriate Brexiters.

To paraphrase Sun Tzu it seems that Brexiter plans only last until first contact with reality. Tony Fox rightly points out a free trade deal the EU has negotiated, but it’s not only Singapore, it’s Japan, Canada and more than 30 other nations are following.

Even before the Japan agreement Britain had 67 per cent of its trade in EU free trade agreements. The big exception of course is Trump’s America. I wonder if Tony really thinks little old UK will get a better deal from Mr ‘America First’ than the EU?

But trade is only part of the strength of the EU, on the 74th anniversary of the destruction of Dresden, Douglas Smith should reflect on the peace and stability it has brought, while both our ancestors had to fight in European wars, I have not and neither will my son.

He should perhaps redirect his anger with Europe towards the hapless Brexiters like Davis and Johnson who promised him everything, failed in office, and now pretend it’s not their fault.

The EU aren’t bullies, Michel Barnier is a strong and principled negotiator who for two years has sat waiting to hear a safe and coherent plan. He’s still waiting, so am I.
