IT is quite right that Helen Jones brings up the struggles of Warrington people in their day to day lives (Warrington Guardian, January 31).

However Labour’s current Brexit policy, that Helen Jones has gone to great lengths to support, is in direct contradiction to Warrington’s vote to leave in 2016.

Labour wishes for a single market and customs union, which entails remaining under EU rules, freedom of movement and an open border policy though I emphasise controlled immigration is a good thing, uncontrolled immigration is not.

In Warrington we have a large warehousing sector.

Recent posts on Jobsite show pay at £7.83 an hour for working nights – below the living wage.

Immigration drives down wages.

It’s stated there are jobs at risk with Brexit, there will be more risks to people’s living standards of our poorest families and jobs if we stay in the EU.

When 310,00 people in net migration every year come into the UK it puts a strain on local services.

When more building of houses is needed to accommodate more people, the green belt is lost.

Labour’s policy of trying to essentially remain as part of the EU is not looking after the poorest in our society and the working class but looking after the interests of big business.

This is not in any way blaming the immigrant, it is blaming the EU, Government both Labour and Conservative for not controlling immigration and the intransigence of the EU for change.

LETTER > 'It's not too late to hit pause'

We need to leave the EU on March 29 and tackle the pressing issues when we control our own money and where it goes.
