AS treasurer of Warrington’s Older People’s Forum I would like to take this opportunity to thank its many members, the members of The Grange Bowling Club and Winwick Parish Council for their kind donations to the children’s toy appeal.

Their help, I am sure, will give many deserving youngsters a better and happy Christmas.

Surprise, surprise, I see from the previous Warrington Guardian that the old drill hall is now the latest venue to be considered for our town’s new theatre.

Two years ago I attended a meeting at the Town Hall when I asked if the drill hall could be used as a community centre and theatre.

I was informed that the hall was in use by the town’s coroner, the main hall was used for counting the votes from the ballot box.

It would need a million pounds spending on it to bring it up to date.

Maybe some fairy has been waving a magic wand?

After spending many years in the drill hall I would love to see it restored, but with the amount of money required, at this present time, there must be a better venue.

Finally, to Ken Davies on ‘Gary B’, a pessimist is a person who has a tendency to expect the worst in all things. I worked with Terry O’Neill on many projects, I found him kind and understanding.
