WHAT we have learnt from this year’s budget is that all the scaremongering over Brexit has been proven wrong.
So now what Theresa May urgently needs to do is drop the Chequers proposal, which is Brexit in name only, and disliked by both Leave and Remain voters.
It should be replaced by a Canada plus Free Trade Agreement.
If the European Commission remains intransigent and unreasonable, then the UK will still thrive by adopting WTO terms – with the added benefit of saving £39 billion.
Cancelling HS2 would also help to turn what is projected to be a budget deficit into a budget surplus.
