ONCE again we have programmes on BBC Radio Four and television programmes of various types about loneliness.

There was a programme on BBC a week ago which discussed the number of people who are lonely, and had set up a survey which researched this.

I found that I felt much lonelier after it finished because they counted up all the sections (age group) and concluded their results were significant but they really did not get down to the causes or the solutions.

Namely encourage the general public, especially the neighbours and residents where these people reside to keep a look out for them, give them a smile as they go past, ask them if they want anything from the shops, or a prescription collecting.

Some people make a big fuss and try to make political capital out of these lonely, vulnerable, often sick, or suicidal people and then do nothing.

Come on people, do what you ought to – be neighbourly and kind.
