IN view of the numerous number of items in the press that companies and individuals are losing money because of computer transactions being used to fund criminal activities, perhaps it would be as well to protect customers of banks by reminding people to use cheques for their payments.
It would possibly prevent door step opportunists from threatening older people if they do not hand over their cash (even when they have not got any) because some can be very forceful.
The cash culture also allows people to avoid tax and VAT and could also be used to launder money for other nefarious activities.
Do not give up cheque book facilities, even if just for older people, because perhaps it prevents them from being robbed and misled.
Also sould it not be better for ATM machines to have a photo system which would take a picture of everyone who uses a cash machine?
