IN reply to the letter published in Warrington Guardian, May 2, from Vicky Lythgoe headed ‘Taxi firm discrimination’.

I write this letter on behalf of my mother, Jackie Tranmer, who relies on taxis to get from place to place due to being disabled and needing a taxi to accommodate her electric wheelchair.

She finds the taxi firm that Vicky refers to in her letter absolutely fantastic.

The £7.50 starting fee includes the time it takes to load and unload a wheelchair which is time-consuming in itself and the fee is incorporated into the journey so it is only a minimum charge – this is certainly not discrimination merely earning a living.

The taxi driver also assists with the loading and unloading and carries items of shopping that the passenger can’t manage into your home and won’t see you struggle unlike some other firms.

She agrees that people are disabled 24/7 and there should be more taxis available with wheelchair access.

Because of this whenever my mum needs a taxi she books it with as much notice as possible to ensure she gets it.

I also have to add that this same driver is the only one that my mum can get who is working on Christmas Day so she can spend it with family.

Having travelled with this taxi driver I have nothing but praise for his attitude and service that Vicky Lythgoe criticised.
