MATTY Russell has found himself a new club following his departure from Warrington Wolves.
The winger's second spell at The Halliwell Jones Stadium has come to an end after his contract with the club expired, and he has now been confirmed as joining Wakefield Trinity.
Russell has penned a one-year deal at Belle Vue to reunite with head coach Daryl Powell, who brought him back to Warrington at the start of last season.
The Scotland international played just one game for The Wire this year, starting on the wing during the Round Nine defeat at Salford Red Devils, having spent the early weeks of the season on loan at Hull FC.
He was then sent on loan to Leeds Rhinos, but he played just once before suffering an injury that would mean he did not play again in 2024.
Now, though, Russell feels he has put his fitness woes behind him.
“I am delighted to have signed with Wakefield, it’s an amazing opportunity for me to get back playing my best rugby," he told Trinity's official website.
"I’ve had a few months now to get my body back to where it should be after a troubled season.
"The club have performed extremely well this year in the Championship and continue to show massive ambition with their signings for 2025.
"I’m very excited to meet everyone, I hear such great things about the club, the staff and the fan base.
"I’m sure they’ll get to see the best version of myself on and off the field, I’m really looking forward to it!”
Russell's move to Wakefield means four of Warrington's five departing players have now had their futures officially confirmed.
Matty Nicholson is joining NRL side Canberra Raiders, John Bateman is returning to Australia to honour his Wests Tigers contract and Gil Dudson is dropping into the Championship to join newly-promoted Oldham.
The only departee whose future plans have not been revealed as of yet is half-back Josh Drinkwater, who will leave the club upon the expiry of his contract.
