WARRINGTON Wolves could have their second consecutive winner of the Super League Young Player of the Year award.
It has been confirmed this afternoon that second-rower Matty Nicholson is on the three-man shortlist for the prize following a stellar 2024 campaign.
Nicholson is joined on the shortlist by Wigan Warriors second-rower Junior Nsemba and St Helens prop George Delaney for the prize that was won by his Warrington teammate Josh Thewlis last year.
The winner will be revealed at the Rugby League Awards on Tuesday, October 8.
Nicholson, who is in his final weeks as a Wire player having secured a move to NRL side Canberra Raiders, has emerged as one of the team's most consistent players on both sides of the ball during 2024.
His 25 appearances in all competitions this year have yielded 10 tries while he has also been one of The Wire's key defensive players - among his teammates, only Ben Currie (759) and Danny Walker (716) can beat his tackle figure of 698 in Super League fixtures.
More award contenders are to be revealed in the coming days, with the Super League Coach of the Year nominees being confirmed tomorrow while the trio in contention for the Steve Prescott MBE Man of Steel prize are to be revealed on Wednesday.
