JOSH Thewlis has signed a new long-term contract with Warrington Wolves.

The young full-back was already tied to the club for a further two seasons but he has now committed his future until November 2026.

The news was confirmed on the big screen at The Halliwell Jones Stadium and live on Sky Sports ahead of tonight’s clash with Hull FC.

Since coming through the club’s academy to make his first-team debut in 2019, Thewlis has made 30 senior appearances for The Wire.

He has scored 11 tries in that time, six of which have come this season.

He becomes the second Wire youngster to pen a long-term deal this week, after Connor Wrench's new three-year contract was confirmed on Monday.

“I’m buzzing to be staying here,” Thewlis said.

“I love everything about the club and the town. It’s a hard-working town and the fans are brilliant.

“I really enjoy playing under Powelly [Daryl Powell]. I’ve really learnt a lot from him and the other coaches.

“It’s all the fine details and I think that’s shown on the pitch and I’m a lot more comfortable.

“I’m ready to go again now and make a big impact.”

Head coach Daryl Powell added: “I’d seen Josh playing most of his rugby as a winger when I came in.

“What he’s done this year is come in at full-back and shown that he’s got a real bright future in the game.

“There’s some things he needs to continue to work on but the three things he has got in abundance are attitude, commitment and toughness.

“He’s got many qualities and is going to develop into an outstanding player for this club. He’s one of many young players we’ve got here with big futures.”
