WARRINGTON Wolves have been awarded a wildcard berth for the finals of the Women’s Nines competition.

In the group stages held at Victoria Park in May, Lee Westwood’s side missed out on automatic qualification on points’ difference despite ending the day unbeaten – they drew with Group A winners St Helens and beat both Bristol Gold Ferns and Barrow Raiders.

However, they have been awarded a place at the finals day, which is at Salford’s AJ Bell Stadium on July 24.

There, they will compete alongside Saints, Leeds, Huddersfield, York and Catalans.

“Going into the tournament we had a process in place, which would determine the sixth - or wildcard - spot,” said Women’s Super League general manager Thomas Brindle.

“This was the highest-placed non-qualifying team.

“In this instance, Warrington was the stand-alone highest-placed non qualifying team, with five points, compared to four points across the other groups.”
