MATTY Ashton could make his senior England debut against the Combined Nations All-Stars on Saturday.

The winger is one of five Warrington Wolves players named in Shaun Wane’s 20-man squad for the game at The Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Ashton is joined in the squad by Wire teammates Mike Cooper, Joe Philbin, Stefan Ratchford and George Williams.

Warrington have the joint-most number of players in the squad alongside Super League leaders St Helens.

In total, nine top-flight clubs are represented in the squad - Wigan Warriors and Catalans Dragons both have two players while there is one each from Leeds Rhinos, Salford Red Devils, Hull KR, Huddersfield Giants and Castleford Tigers.

Former Swinton Lions man Ashton made his England Knights debut against Jamaica at the end of last year - scoring twice in a 56-4 win over Jamaica - and is now called up to the senior side for the first time.

He is The Wire’s leading tryscorer this year, crossing 10 times in his 14 appearances.

“I’ve every confidence in every player selected,” Wane said.

“Some need no introduction and have earned a recall, others are new to the squad and are also in on merit.

“They all have the ability to perform at this level and this is their chance to show myself and England supporters what they can do.”

Other potential debutants include St Helens pair Jack Welsby and Joe Batchelor while Catalans hooker Michael McIlorum could make his first England appearance since the 2013 Rugby League World Cup.
