WARRINGTON Wolves’ first pre-season friendly of next year has been confirmed.

In what will be new head coach Daryl Powell’s first game in charge, The Wire will face neighbours Wigan Warriors in Stefan Ratchford’s Testimonial fixture.

The match will take place at The Halliwell Jones Stadium on Saturday, January 29, kick off 5.30pm.

It will be one of two friendly matches Wolves will play before their opening Super League fixture against Leeds Rhinos on February 12 – the other being an away fixture against an opponent to be confirmed.

Wigan-born Ratchford was granted a Testimonial year for 2022 and is entering his 11th season as a Warrington Wolves player.

He says being able to play his Testimonial fixture against his hometown club is “really special.”

“It’s going to be an absolutely massive game in pre-season and I’d like to thank both clubs for their support in arranging,” he said.

“It’s always one of the first fixtures I look for when they’re released so to be able to get it as my Testimonial game is really special.

“Being a Wigan lad makes it that bit extra nice as well.

“Warrington v Wigan games are always a packed house with a great atmosphere and plenty of noise.

“There’s a lot of change and excitement around both clubs for the new season. It’s always a real physical and exciting game so hopefully the pre-season game will be no different.

“The reaction since my Testimonial year was announced has been really positive and I’m really grateful to all the fans for the support they’ve shown and hopefully that will continue throughout the year.”

Tickets for the game will go on sale online and from the official club store on Monday, December 13.
