REECE Briers – son of club legend and former assistant coach Lee – has followed his father in leaving Warrington Wolves.

The young half-back came through the ranks at The Halliwell Jones Stadium but has made a permanent move to North Wales Crusaders, who ply their trade in League One.

He follows his father out of the club, with Lee having ended his 25-year association with The Wire as both player and coach following the 2021 season. He has since joined neighbours Wigan Warriors as an assistant to new head coach Matty Peet.

With his father having won 23 caps for Wales during his playing career, Reece is well versed in how much the game means to his new fans.

“I can’t wait and I’m really looking forward to the experience of playing against men,” he told the Crusaders’ official website.

“I want to earn the respect of my teammates and hopefully get as much experience as I can.

“For me, it’s going to be about working hard and aiming to get my way into the team.

“Even though it was a brilliant season for the club in 2021, I know they were disappointed to drop out of the play-offs so hopefully we can push on even more now.

“With my dad playing for Wales, I know the fans are very passionate so I’m really looking forward to playing in front of them.

“I just can’t wait and I’m buzzing to meet all the boys in pre-season.

“Working hard is all I do really and I’ll make sure I do that for my team mates, the coaching staff and the club.”
