AFTER 25 years with Warrington Wolves as player and coach, Lee Briers is joining neighbours Wigan Warriors.

The Wire legend has been confirmed as part of the Warriors' new coaching set-up after his time at The Halliwell Jones Stadium came to an end following the 2021 campaign.

Briers will serve as an assistant coach alongside Sean O'Loughlin under new head coach Matty Peet, with former head coach Shaun Wane returning to the club as Leadership and Management Director in combination with his England duties.

Wigan's new coaching team also includes Jack Phillips, who left his role as Warrington's head of analysis at the end of this season and will now take up the same role at the DW Stadium.

“I’m really excited for the challenge – it’s what dreams are made of," Briers said of his new role.

"Wigan is a massive rugby league club in anybody’s eyes so to be asked to come and coach here is special.

“I’m really looking forward to working alongside the staff here. We’re all focused on one thing and that’s making Wigan attractive winners again.

"We’re on the same wavelength, we’re all aligned and we’re looking forward to the job.”
